Table Symbology works similar to Table Ordering. Elements are selected using the same method as Table Ordering and their symbology is modified in the output. With Bentley Advanced Map Finishing V8i, the display is also changed. For example, all lines could be drawn with line style 2 printed as colour red. This option can provide a WYSIWYG display of files previously plotted with pen tables. It also enables automated systems to be implemented.

When printing with table symbology, elements are compared with the criteria of each line of the table, starting at the top, until a match is found. The element is then printed according to the symbology of that line. These changes are only made to the output print file and do not affect the design file. Any changes or additions to the design file are displayed according to the table rules following a screen update.
